“I like pre-school because everyone plays with me”, says one of our young pre-schoolers.
And what better recommendation could there be? Nancledra Preschool is a warm and welcoming place. We educate, encourage and entertain Nancledra’s younger children through a lively mixture of activities and child led play.
Each child has a key worker. The key worker’s role is to develop trusting and sensitive relationships with parents and children to enable respectful sharing of information. We like to work in partnership with parents to help children learn and develop. All parents complete an “All About Me” profile before their children join us and this relationship parental input continues.
The benefit of being a small setting is that we have the time to work closely with all the children, encouraging their interests and ideas. We place a great emphasis on developing friendships and respecting each other. After all, many of our children will be moving up to school together, and we help them create those all-important bonds that can last for years!
We have a well-established transition programme that helps our children transfer successfully into Nancledra Primary School. The teacher of Class 1, Alison Ashby, and the Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Julie Goldsmith, are both members of the pre-school committee and work very closely with us.
Throughout the year the school pupils interact with the preschool children during their morning break. Once a week we have joint play times in the school grounds. The preschool children often visit the school for story times or music sessions, and the pupils of Class 1 frequently visit the preschool for celebrations. The preschool children take part in the school Sports Day and their families are involved in annual school events such as the Craft Fair. The preschool staff have experience of working in the school and so are able to use approaches and sometimes resources that help ensure continuity and progression in the children’s learning experiences.
